Nuevitas, July 7.- Strengthening the resilience of the marine-coastal ecosystem and its communities is the objective of the implementation at Santa Lucía beach of an action and resource management plan that will contribute significant environmental, economic, and social benefits to that intervention site.

According to a publication in the weekly Adelante, from Camagüey, based on the criteria of working groups made up of provincial, municipal and local actors, plans are being done for the restoration and conservation of mangroves, the rehabilitation of dunes and the vegetation of the sandy coast, the fight against invasive species, the planting of corals for the protection of reefs and the management of seagrasses.

The reformulation of the tourism product in the resort and the development of an awareness campaign for national and foreign visitors with approaches to blue tourism, which promotes harmony with nature, taking advantage of the benefits offered by the invaluable marine ecosystems, is also contemplated coastal present in the area.

Likewise, the creation of an area such as the Santa Lucía Reef Protected Natural Landscape is planned, which will gradually contribute to the recovery of this valuable ecosystem.

Achieving the rescue and more remarkable preservation of the natural wealth of the Santa Lucía beach is the objective of its inclusion in the Vulnerability and Feasibility Studies project of the program to strengthen the ecosystem and social resilience of coastal and marine areas in Cuba. This initiative consists of a technical assistance operation financed by the French Development Agency.
