Nuevitas,- Forests have existed for a long time, even before the first civilizations. They are a vital source of energy that guaranteed food, shelter and allies to the first men and women in those remote prehistoric days.

These vegetation fornations are the main emitters of oxygen, which is why they are considered the lungs of the Earth.

Forest areas are important ecosystems because they are home to countless species. They are also useful to humans, since their resources are used to make charcoal and raw materials used in the creation of paper, notebooks, pencils and other utensils required in the educational sector.

In spite of the innumerable benefits they provide to mankind, their resources are plundered and exploited indiscriminately, and for this reason, protecting them is a priority task for the generations of this century.

In Nuevitas, a municipality northeast of Camagüey, the Forest Ranger Corps and the Municipal Flora and Fauna Center are in charge of caring for them.

These institutions plan strategies to preserve the existence of Mother Nature and her inexhaustible riches.

It is essential to analyze the innumerable benefits that can be obtained from forests, without abusing them, in order to raise awareness of the need to protect this natural wonder.

Safeguarding them will allow the enjoyment of millenary forests, and let them to adorn the planet Earth with green for many centuries to come.
