Nuevitas, 2025.- Workers at the El Real salt mine, near the Santa Lucía resort, are making good progress in the extraction of the product in the months of 2025, which then goes through processing until it is finally marketed in the basic family basket.
According to Aldo Infante Peralta, director of the Base Business Unit belonging to the Empresa Nacional de Sal, at the end of the first quarter, the mining plan was for 6,000 tons and ended with 10,156 tons.
Regarding to fine salt, the leading product, 1,680 tons were processed, which show a discrete deficit in relation to the plan; however, the owner emphasized that “the delay is recoverable when there is motivation and commitment from the labor group”.
In this enclave, surrounded by beautiful beaches, salt production is also achieved for industrial purposes, for animal consumption to produce animal feed and one dedicated to the health sector for equipment that provides hemodialysis services in the nephrology wards.
The Nuevitas industry produces salt for the central region of the country, from Cienfuegos to Camagüey, although it sells indistinctly to customers in the rest of the provinces.
Representatives of the administrative, union and political leadership of the facility confirmed to the press their willingness to contribute to Camagüey's accountability to the National Assembly of People's Power next July.
