Nuevitas.- Internationalism is a quality that distinguishes Cubans, but this condition is even more representative when it comes to doctors.

Willingness defines the doctors who step forward at the call of the Revolution, because collaboration is based on the development of solidarity. After 1959, it became a principle of the National Health System, as it deepened in the different modalities that conform it and developed according to the economic-social transformations of the country.

Its precedents in Cuban medicine date back to the colonial period, when some physicians spontaneously expressed the revolutionary desire of going to different countries to offer help as professionals or get ready as soldiers.

History also records countless expressions of solidarity with other nations of the world; evidenced since the beginning of the revolutionary triumph of January 1st, 1959; legacies of the Latin Americanist thought of José Martí, Ernesto Guevara and Fidel Castro.

According to analysts, they reconsider the beginning of Cuban international medical cooperation in permanent brigades, when on May 23, 1963, the first delegation was sent to Algeria, made up of 55 collaborators who provided their services for one year.

Particularly from Nuevitas, there are doctors in several countries -Venezuela, Mexico, Angola and Algeria- who do not look at the weather or geographic situation to bring health to the most needy.

There is no doubt that love, dedication and solidarity go hand in hand in the principle of saving lives and healing sickness so that people can enjoy their right to health.
