Nuevitas, 2025.- La India Caonaba (The Indian woman Caonaba), a sculpture by the prestigious Cuban plastic artist Rita Longa Aróstegui (1912-2000), is exhibited at the Municipal Museum of the northern Camagüey city of Nuevitas.

The piece had been practically destroyed by the lashings of hurricane Ike, 2008: it suffered damage to the limbs, head and part of the back.

It was located at the Caonaba Hotel, at the entrance of the city and since February 28, 2021, due to the commemoration of the 193rd anniversary of the foundation of San Fernando de Nuevitas, was again displayed at the Municipal Museum.

The sculptural work (dating from the 70's of the last century), is sculpted in cement with a rebar support. The restoration was carried out by the plastic artist Juset Torres, with the help of the art instructor Carlos Luis. The sculpture La india Caonaba weighs almost a

The Havana-born Rita Longa, winner of the National Plastic Arts Award 1995, was a popular sculptor with works in almost all the Cuban island; two of them are located in Camagüey province: La india Caonaba, in Nuevitas, and Arabesque, a 1986 project consisting of a fountain cast in stone at the headquarters of the Camagüey Ballet.
