What would a country be without the anonymous workers of garbage collection and street cleaning?

Feb, 2025.- After midnight I hear the voices of the workers and the sound of the solid waste garbage truck.

Street by street, sometimes in the rain, heat or cold, they are in charge of collecting garbage in long days until sunrise. Their objective is to achieve harmony between the urban furniture and the environment, in addition to improving citizens' quality of life through community hygiene systems.

It is a complex task that some do not value or recognize. When we rest, they are in charge of picking up the garbage, however, unconscious and irresponsible people deposit it outside the trash cans.

This effort is joined by the “army” of street cleaning men and women, who, with brooms in their hands, keep the city's roads free of garbage.

The dignified, necessary and indispensable task of the street sweeper has existed since ancient times.

Life in a city is unsustainable without the work of these men and women, honest and sincere! (To paraphrase the song), in charge of cleaning up the community.

Other groups also work during the day to eliminate micro-dumps in order to prevent air pollution.

The sanitation work they carried out needs the support of the population to keep the environment clean and healthy.

The street sweeper, simple and humble, deserves society's consideration and constant encouragement.

Since 1995, the Day of the Workers in this sector has been celebrated in Cuba every February 15, because on that day, but in 1920, the martyr Faustino Pérez was born.

Garbage collectors and street sweepers are a necessary profession and dignified by Mario Moreno Reyes in the song Soy Barrendero (I'm a street sweeper).
