Nuevitas, 2025.- In the context of Cuban Science Day, the Nuevitas student, Rolando de Jesús Roque Chávez, was accredited with the Relevant Award in the second edition of the provincial event of Camagüey, Young Science for Innovation.

The proposal “allows to know the consumption of LED lamps -which use light-emitting diodes as a light source-, and thus avoid high consumption in electrical grids”, specified the student, who is in his third year at the Mario Herrero Toscano Institute, and who is opting for the Medium Technician in Electricity.

The technology was developed to facilitate the process of repairing lamps and light bulbs, which he used to do empirically.

“Without realizing it, I was doing something that can contribute to energy savings in the country,” he added.

The talent and dedication of young people like Rolando de Jesús Roque Chávez allow science, technology and innovation to come together to develop solutions to social, environmental and economic challenges.
