Oct, 2024.- Throughout her 28 years of service in the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), Ángela Hiraima Pérez Valdés traveled a road full of achievements and challenges.

"In 1996 I started as a military draftswoman; two years later, due to a reorganization, I was offered the position of head of the Attention Areas, which I held for four years. Then I was head of the leaders for five years and currently I am an official for political work.

Durante el tiempo que llevo de trabajo se realizaron actividades relacionadas principalmente con la formación del personal para las tareas de la defensa, donde tuve el importante papel de guiar a los alumnos civiles”, agregó Pérez Valdés.

During the time I have been working, activities related to the training of personnel for defense tasks were carried out, where I had the important role of guiding the civilian trainees," added Pérez Valdés.

"Organizing political events and recreational plans is also part of my job, I am in charge of leading everything from public meetings to trips to the beach in the summer. The aim of the latter is to foster togetherness among workers and offer them a space to share with the family.Nuevita

One of my priorities as a politician is the attention to schools. The Military Sector of Nuevitas has prioritized the Victoria de Girón Mixed School, where we launched the Friends of the FAR contest and several of the participating children won prizes. This is part of the patriotic formation of the pioneers".

"I received training as an exploitation platoon leader and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. I took courses in politics, English and computers science."

The anecdotes recounted by this multifaceted official are full of nostalgia. She fondly remembers one of the many drills she was in; that day became one of the happiest of her life.

"I participated in many exercises during the defense days, but there is one that I remember in a special way. It was in March 2005, when in an exercise I took on the role of a U.S. special troops squad leader, so I had ten colleagues under my command. I had to climb walls, crawl through trenches and roll on the ground, which was difficult because I felt more tired than usual. At the end of the exercise, I realized I was pregnant.

According to Pérez Valdés, she also went through bitter moments due to his job, which very few can tolerate this lifestyle.

"It's a job that demands a lot from you. You must be willing to sacrifice your time with the family if some event occurs that could affect the population. I experienced a similar situation in 2006, when the commander in chief Fidel Castro Ruz was seriously ill."

"Despite my experiences, I feel committed to my work. I have learned a lot and I hope to stay there until my retirement, I wouldn't change what I do for anything. I am happy to be useful to society in this way."
