Sept, 2024.- The photo of one of the emblematic sites of Nuevitas, municipality of Camagüey very important for the country, was the cover of the Facebook profile of Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Minister of Transportation in Cuba.

Since then, a new publication highlights its characteristics and interesting content that Radio Nuevitas shares with its readers.

A cover is revealed: The Nuevitas port

As many followers identified, the image belongs to the port of Nuevitas, in the bay of the same name, on the northern coast of Camagüey province.

Its port facilities have a draft of between 6.60 and 7.90 meters and admit vessels of up to 186 m in length and 25,000 tons of displacement. These limited characteristics do not allow many of the ships that transport goods to Cuba to be received there as the first port.

The port has 10 warehouses with a capacity of up to 50,000 tons of bags; of these, only six are operational and two are in the process of investment, which will begin operating this year.

New equipment will be acquired to handle cement imports, exports and cabotage to support the investment process related to the new Nuevitas Cement Factory. This includes two warehouses that will be dedicated to this product.

In the roadstead there are facilities to make easier the operations of tankships, which guarantees the supply of fuel and gases mainly to the provinces of Ciego de Avila, Camagüey and Las Tunas.

The port of Nuevitas has the facilities for practice services offered by the company Prácticos de Cuba, and tugboat services operated by the company Navegación Caribe, both part of the Grupo Marítimo Portuario (Gemar).

The development of the port of Nuevitas is essential for the future of the province of Camagüey.

The roadstead is located in one of the deepest and most beautiful bays of the island, with interior cays of remarkable biological diversity, and a narrow channel that separates Cayo Sabinal from Santa Lucia, sites of great potential for tourism development.
