August, 2024.-There are a lot of heroes who stand out in defense of public order and peace, but today the attention is for Yanka, a German Shepherd dog, who belongs to the specialty of Forensic science, also known as Criminalistics, in the Camagüey municipality of Nuevitas.

No cape or superpowers, her tracking skills and good behavior have been the reasons she became the heroine of several cases of robberies, murders and other crimes; that is why her human workmates love her and take good care of her.

According to her comrade, Second Lieutenant Yunior Rodríguez Rodíguez, he met her when she was three months old, and since then they have been inseparable colleagues in dissimilar exploits.

“If the canine does not have any disease which affects its abilities, it will work approximately for eight years, but she is still five years old and remains in good health," the specialist added.

Rodríguez Rodríguez also mentioned that the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) has a breeding center and when a specimen is discharged, a puppy of approximately three months old is given to be trained by the instructors and by its new colleague, with whom it will share its future eight years of life.

“More than a job, it is all an honor to have the company of the most loyal friends in the world”, said Yanka’s human friends.

The Canine Technique is an auxiliary way of the Criminalistic Technique based on the use of highly trained dogs with the objective of discovering, clarifying and preventing criminal activities.

Those interested in this experience can contact the head of the institution and the officer in charge will inform about the requirements and particularities of the specialty.
