August, 2024.-In defense of the most autochthonous features that are transmitted from generation to generation, the Municipal Museum of Nuevitas preserves, researches and spreads the values that are part of the history of this Camagüey municipality.
According to the specialist Marta Mora Castañeda, it is important to save the cultural heritage, that which defined the locals as "cangrejeros" and supported the appellation of Nuevitas la bella, in addition to the traditional dishes and social gatherings for the new generations to get to know it.
“The rescue of local history and the encouragement to love and care for our small homeland is the main purpose of this institution”, said Mora Castañeda.
In this sense, the center offers an innovative way to improve the quality of the educational teaching process.
"During the school period, we offer the possibility for students to visit the institution and tour the museum, and even for history teachers to give classes," said the museologist.
However, for the summer season, the institution's staff conceived several alternatives for the enjoyment and interaction with the public, such as contests, workshops about Nuevitas traditions, social gatherings with guest artists and handicraft exhibits.
She also commented that they continue to visit the communities and the most vulnerable groups in the maternity and children's wards of the Martin Chang Puga General Teaching Hospital, the Nursing Home and the Eterna Juventud Grandparents’ Home.
The Nuevitas Museum is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, an opportunity to learn more about the local heritage.
